Avondale Primary School

Welcome to Avondale Park School and our school website. Avondale Park School is a large primary school serving a multi-ethnic community in the heart of North Kensington and since September 2014 we have been federated with St Anne’s Nursery School. Avondale Primary School is a public primary school. In 2014 there were 908 registered learners, including 117 Grade R learners.

The first pupils of the school assembled in Mabel Ruth Low’s billiard room then later moved into St. Mary’s Magdalene Chapel in 1910. In 1921, a new school with four classrooms, a teacher’s room, outbuildings, a well and a fence was erected on the present site. The school colours, blue represents the sky and ever looking upwards and black represents the earth upon which our feet are firmly planted. In 1929, the school motto “Attempt, Preserver, Succeed” which ironically are the schools initial letters was introduced.

I do hope that your children will read and complete their home learning next week; but I also hope that you manage some rest and fun! Wishing you a happy half term- we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 29th October at 8.50am.

In 1929, the school motto “Attempt, Preserver, Succeed” which ironically are the schools initial letters was introduced. From a billiard room to a fully operational school of two departments with over forty classrooms, 2 halls, 2 swimming pools, boreholes, lower fields and upper fields for sports, buses, email and internet is an indication of the strides that the school has made between 1910 and 2016.

We pride ourselves as teachers on aiming continually to develop and improve our teaching in order to make learning accessible and exciting for all pupils. Free 3d desktop zombies for mac. We are fortunate to have lots of space with excellent facilities, including 2 computer suites, interactive whiteboards in each classroom, two sports halls, and developing playgrounds. We are an inclusive school encouraging the academic, social and personal development of every child in a welcoming and secure environment.

I have been lucky enough to attend lots of exit points this week; and have thoroughly enjoyed hearing children from Nursery to Y4 describing different aspects of their projects to their parents and friends. These were a real showcase of how hard everyone has worked and just how much knowledge children can take in when they are motivated and excited by a project. Thank you to everyone as always for your support.

About Avondale Primary School The school was established one hundred years ago, founded by Mabel Ruth Low in January 1910. Her modest ambition was to give education to the youths of the community. The school’s history is closely linked to the fascinating history of Harare’s northern suburb of Avondale and thus takes its name from the suburb in which it is sited. The first pupils of the school assembled in Mabel Ruth Low’s billiard room then later moved into St. Mary’s Magdalene Chapel in 1910.
